EXHIBITS // CALIFORNIA SCULPTURE SLAM 2013
AUG 23 – SEP 29
OVERVIEW // The Central Coast Sculptors, in collaboration with SLOMA, presents the 2nd biennial California Sculpture SLAM, a juried exhibition of fine sculpture by California artists.
SLAM is a unique opportunity to see a large number of current works by established sculptors on the West Coast scene. The open competition, without adherence to strict thematic guidelines, has inspired an extraordinary collection of sculpture. The 38 pieces in the exhibition were selected from 303 works entered by 135 artists and include designs crafted of metal, wood, stone, paper and other media. The artists showing their work live as far north as Mt. Shasta and as far south as Long Beach. Representing the Central Coast are sculptors Timo Beckwith, Marcia Harvey, Autumn Jennings, George Jercich, Robert Oblon, and David Settino Scott.
Juror Coleen Sterritt, a Los Angeles-based sculptor, had this to say about her selections, “With studio practices ranging from the strictly formal to process driven to the conceptual, the work of the artists I’ve selected for the 2013 California Sculpture Slam represents a cross-section of current trends in contemporary sculpture-making. In this exhibition we get glimpses of the personal and political with work that addresses issues concerning identity, contemporary culture, and wonders of the natural world.”
DETAILS // There will be a public reception to meet the Sculpture SLAM artists from 6 – 9 pm in conjunction with Art After Dark.
