ArtRoster – Balos Atelier, a group of Mount Shasta area artists, will exhibit their original paintings in a show entitled “1748–2013” at the Center for the Visual Arts in Ashland. The opening reception will take place Thursday, January 31. Artwork will be on display from January 31 until February 14.

ArtRoster – Balos Atelier is a group of Northern California artists who reside at the base of Mt. Shasta. Most of the group has enjoyed art making in a variety of media for many years, and within the last few years their love of painting has brought them together creating, exploring and exhibiting. Meeting weekly, they draw inspiration from art history, their natural environment, and each other as well as their painting instructor Aleksander Balos. The artists utilize techniques from the Old Masters atelier system of the great European academic and impressionistic painting schools of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as more contemporary methods. The inspiration for the title “1748–2013” refers to the birth year of French artist Jacques-Louis David, whose lineage of painting method is an influence for the group.

Participating artists are Aleksander Balos, Janet Crittenden, Marga Filip, Shery Larson, Sharon LoMonaco, Jenny Purtle, Linda Vivas, and Lou Wandro.

The show will exhibit through February 14 at Retzlaff & Thorndike Galleries at the Center for the Visual Arts at Southern Oregon University, located at 1250 Siskiyou Blvd. in Ashland. The opening reception takes place January 31 5–7pm and is open to the public.
